How To See Stars: Cetus The Whale or The Sea Monster | Fall Constellations Lesson 2

How To See Stars: Cetus The Whale or The Sea Monster Fall Constellations Lesson 2 starsnearme.com

Welcome back everyone to Lesson 2 in our free video course in Alternative Astronomy where we are learning to identify the star constellations of the Northern Hemisphere.

In this piece we are going to put our focus on Cetus The Whale or The Sea Monster and get to know this constellation that has a big starring role to play in many more myths and stories than most people have any idea about.

This makes this constellation even more mysterious, so let’s dive back into the depths of the Celestial Sea and meet Cetus.

If you have been with us along this journey of becoming star-sighted with us over the Summer months, you will remember we have looked at Cetus before where he showed up with a starring role to play in the 4th of July story.  This is just one of our video pieces that goes a bit beyond the beginner information we are presenting here  (to see that piece click here).  This is the first time in the beginner context that we are looking at Cetus in depth.

So we’re going to orient ourselves to once again face due South and pay attention to everything that is above the horizon, in that special area of the sky we have nicknamed “The Real Oracle” or “The Real All-Seeing Eye”.

The time we are going to be looking for Cetus is during the first two hours after the Sun has set in the October sky in the Northern Hemisphere.

You will find Cetus The Whale or The Sea Monster just coming up over the Eastern horizon of the Earth.

The interesting thing about Cetus during this time of the year is that he shows us the important starring role he has to play in keeping time.

We are going to see this show up over and over again as we get deeper into these sky stories as we go forward…this way that Cetus helps to keep time or set the calendar here on Earth.
