More and more people are looking into homeschooling (some calling it unschooling) for their kids and that makes me so happy to see, but in this post I want to talk to you about one particular subject and share what I think you might agree by the end of this post is an awesome idea for a homeschool curriculum you probably haven’t thought of.
Alternative Astronomy is what I’m suggesting as an awesome curriculum idea.
Now you may have saw that and thought…but I don’t even know about regular astronomy, so how is this such an awesome idea?
Well, here’s one of the awesome parts…you are actually at a huge advantage if you don’t know anything about regular astronomy because that means you won’t waste any time having to un-learn many things that regular astronomy teaches.
We made some enormous discoveries over the last few years about how everything in the sky above all of our heads really works and how that all connects to the most famous stories known to us right here on the earth, in a way that no one outside a very small group of people have seen before.
We immediately encountered a BIG problem when we went about the task of sharing the enormous discoveries we made.
We quickly learned that almost no one had any real knowledge anymore about how everything in the sky above all of our heads really works to even be able to make the connections and see the enormous importance of what it is we discovered.
That means we had to come up with simple and easy ways to teach the real basics of the way the Sun, Moon, planets and stars in the sky above our heads move first. This is because we learned it is this most basic, practical knowledge that has been lost to most.
This knowledge is lost to most of us because this awesome knowledge has not been taught in most schools anywhere over the earth for a very long time.
This is likely the same reason you don’t have this knowledge either.
It’s time to change that because this really is the most awesome knowledge to know and I’m using awesome in it’s proper context for a change. Most people throw around the word awesome to describe various and random things, but learning Alternative Astronomy is truly awe-inspiring to discover for yourself, along with sharing and teaching it to your own kids.
We start with learning the star constellations of the Northern Hemisphere night sky and where and when to find them.
We have a free beginner video course to accompany the series of four short books that teach how to find the star constellations of the Northern Hemisphere sky by the season of the year.
The book series is called Constellations by Campfire: The Easy and Naked Eye Way.
These books are easy instruction for beginners with full page star constellation maps included that will work as a reference for many years to come because the information included is applicable for every Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring seasons of EVERY year in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Constellations by Campfire series of books also includes dot grid pages after the month’s sky maps for you to make your own notes and constellation drawings of your own sky observations so you can use them as your stargazing journal, as well.
You can find a flip-through of the book by clicking the video below.
This simple series of books can certainly be used as a stand-alone way to learn the star constellations of the Northern Hemisphere sky and for a set of reference books for use in the future, but can also be combined with our free beginner video course that opens up other important areas of study as we go along.
Other areas of study that open up through studying Alternative Astronomy include mythology and philosophy looked at through a non-religious or secular perspective.
One more thing you should know when looking into the study of Alternative Astronomy and that is that we will not be teaching the types of things taught very regularly in regular astronomy courses.
This means that things that have no practical application in your life like for instance, light-years and spaceships rocketing through outer space are not things we will be talking about.
We have found those things to be a huge distraction to keep you from learning what we know is truly important and practical knowledge we all should have about how our “world” really works.
The Constellations by Campfire: The Easy and Naked Eye Way for the Fall Season is the perfect place to start. It’s just in time for the start of the new homeschool year with star constellation maps that begin in September with the Fall Equinox.
If you have any questions at all after checking everything out and watching the video, send us an email to info@starsnearme.com and I will be there to personally answer your questions.
Our mission is to help as many as we can reclaim this awesome and practically useful knowledge we call Alternative Astronomy and we know that learning it in this homeschool way, some call it the unschooling way, is the only way we are going to be able to do it.
Join us in learning this awesomeness so you can have something truly awesome to teach your kids.
Until next time…stay lit and be well,
shannon
